Self

Recognize that you are alone

In some ways in whole
In some ways in part
Realize that you are described by words like
Individual. Him. She and each
That the bond between you and self
Vexes even the most general terms such as
EveryONE and SomeONE and turns
The essence of marriage against itself
When “they”, the new whole are referred to as
Mr and Mrs never Mr or Mrs

Respect to Self
I salute

No one can defeat her
She is strong, and bold, and untameable
Showing her glory in the differences of our fingerprints
And the echoes of our dissimilar voices.
Oh! The freedom of self as
She prances around our minds
Causing both distraction and attraction.
Now I wonder
What power I’d have if I had control over her
Self.

November 2015

Mauritius – Walking to Trou aux Biches beach thinking about

how we (students) are still alone even though we are now family.

We are still individual representatives of our own previous lives

(family, country, etc.). We must be aware of it and decide how much

it defines us.
